About our Internship Program

Student Working Professionals (SWP) is a socially conscious, education and technology focused nonprofit organization. SWP works together with schools, our strategic company partners, and the community in Gloucester, Burlington, and Camden Counties to prepare students with the skills needed to be successful pursuing careers in: Accounting, Business Management, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems, and Marketing.

  • • Experience you would gain including, but not limited to, the following:
    • • Restoring QuickBook Files
    • • Entering client prepared trial balance into our internal software system
    • • Set up proforma financial statements
    • • Scanning documents for staff accountants
    • • Roll forward PDF workpapers to prepare for next year
    • • Business operations for Visions in Innovative Accounting
    • • Reconciling bank accounts
    • • Entering cash receipts and disbursements into QuickBooks
    • • Prepare portions of clients financial statements
    • • Preparing workpapers for balance sheet accounts and payroll
    • • Preparing analytical review
    • • Preparing 11120H tax returns for community associations
    • • Assist accountants in client fieldwork
    • • Preparing notes to financial statements
    • • Preparing 990 (nonprofits) and 1040 (individual) tax returns as well as state nonprofit registrations (NJ & PA)
    • • Prepare workpapers for other revenue and expense sections
    • • Reviewing Budget analysis
    • • Preparing 1120 and 1065 tax returns
  • • Requirements to apply:
    • • Must be passionate and want to learn more about tax and accounting!
    • • Must be reliable and accountable
    • • Must be able to work at minimum 10 hours a week
    • • Must be able to commit to a minimum of one semester (see Length of Internship above). Dropping out of the internship program before the official end date is highly discouraged and will impact your likelihood of receiving a recommendation from us later down the road.
  • • Experience you would gain including, but not limited to, the following:
    • • Working with the basics in different business fields: marketing, finance, start-up development, business planning, strategic planning, building maintenance, customer service, list-building and obtaining clients (including work in Salesforce)
    • • Creating projections for Student Empowered Business Campus (SEBC) businesses and Digital Accounting Institute
    • • Various small tasks for business development for Someplace Special: scheduling, price projections, market research, event setup/planning, etc.
    • • Assisting with NOW! And SWP events
    • • Work at the front desk (answering calls, fielding clients) at Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel, or SEBC location
    • • Work as an entry-level employee at one of the SEBC businesses (i.e. Someplace Special)
  • • Requirements to apply:
    • • Must be passionate and want to learn more about business management!
    • • Must be reliable and accountable
    • • Must be able to work at minimum 10 hours a week
    • • Must be able to commit to a minimum of one semester (see Length of Internship above). Dropping out of the internship program before the official end date is highly discouraged and will impact your likelihood of receiving a recommendation from us later down the road.
  • • Experience you would gain including, but not limited to, the following:
    • • Troubleshooting staff’s various computer issues
    • • Learning about working on a cloud environment
    • • Learning about software programs used by an accounting firm
    • • Organizing software and computer supplies between multiple offices
    • • Converting documents from paper to paperless
    • • Building team’s confidence in communicating remotely
    • • Helping to enforce file structure organization
    • • Setting up new workstations for an office environment
    • • Advising about best way for peers to work efficiently
    • • Organizing office building’s network wiring
    • • Testing disaster recovery plan
    • • Researching most efficient & cost effective way for us to work & share files
  • • Requirements to apply:

    • • Must be reliable and accountable
    • • Must be able to work at minimum 10 hours a week

  • • Experience you would gain including, but not limited to, the following:
    • • Event Planning
    • • Email marketing and list building
    • • Social media marketing (LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
    • • Salesforce administration and data entry
    • • Event and program promotion
    • • Performing a marketing analysis
    • • Creating and editing flyers, promo sheets, and brochures
    • • Introduction to Sales
    • • Graphic design
    • • Creating press releases
    • • Website content and design
    • • Writing blog posts on: Accounting, Business Management, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems, and Marketing
    • • Designing presentations and training for students at the Burlington County Youth Drop-In Center
    • • Video production and editing
